Government Idiosyncracy
Because the internet was down yesterday, I couldn’t get any work done. And I seriously feel the government and Roy Suryo was to blame for it.
Why?
Because I am sure yesterday was the beginning of the day where everyone was desperately milking out all the porn they could get before the government started to ban access to them. And who was a better porn expert if not
On top of that, all the paranoia that surrounded the issue of UU ITE and Wilder’s Fitna was enough to make the Minister of Communication and Information, Moh. Nuh, to write a letter to Youtube demanding that Fitna was to be taken off of Youtube, otherwise they would close access of Youtube for Indonesians.
Which was beyond ridiculous, I must say, but enough to make the rest of us internet users feeling more paranoid than usual. If the government was stupid enough to generalise one harmless site such as Youtube to be the source of all evil, what chance would there be for them not to ban other sites too?
Maybe within a year we all must say goodbye to Facebook, Friendster, Multiply and even the actual activity of writing our own personal journal on the net, in which it is usually known as blogging. since it was obvious Mr. Suryo himself could not distinguish the difference between bloggers and hackers, God forbid we’re all guilty of charge!
So paranoid are we, that already a discussion of ‘which porn sites were still accessible’ has already been started at Kaskus, the largest Indonesian Community on the internet.
I read that one person got so paranoid that he thought Friendster was also banned because he could no longer access it, even though those who had responded claimed it was not.
The chance that Youtube would actually realise there was even a request through mail sent by Minister of Communication and Information would be slim to none - I doubt they even know where
And all it was because of one lousy documentary that a certain group of religious fanatics seem to dread so much, like FPI, for example.
No, seriously - if absolutely everyone despises them (at least that’s what I’ve heard and read), then why are they still roaming freely on the streets, doing sweepings and unnecessary demonstrations that ended up causing traffic jam and not much else? There’s got to be someone financing their whole act.
Perhaps I should blame them instead of

“bloggers dan hackers bertindak negatif”??
man, somebody should fire this guy. or at least buy him a dictionary so he could see the differences.
April 4th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
he’s too damn proud and ignorant to find out the differences. Because according to his metadata findings, almost 99% of bloggers are hackers

Who the heck is Roy Suryo? Never heard of him.
Is he a politician?
Why all of a sudden he became famous? Is he jealous of Cinta Laura who stole the spotlight everywhere?
I’m serious, who is Roy Suryo, Therry? Don’t tell me to just google him hahaha…
April 5th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Becareful Therry, or you’ll be arrested because violation on
UU-ITE section 27
If that’s happen.. I’ll be more than ready to campaign about that on
my blog
“Free Therry”
Hehehehe
April 5th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
@Ian:
Just google him
J/k. Before the whole Fitna / UU ITE thing, I never even heard of him, but afterwards, his name was the only one I could think of to blame for this whole preposterous situation involving the blocking of youtube, rapidshare and God knows what else.
He is the porn expert. He identifies whether or not that naked photo of Dewi Sandra was real, and he uses words like “menurut metadata…saya yakin gambar ini 68% akurat…”
jackass.
@Reedler:
You better have bail money, dude hahaah.
Freedom to hell! Oops.

Yah, saya mengaku, sayalah blogger yang meng-hack DepKomInfo dengan menggunakan excel dan internet.
Tuh orang tolol banget yah, empet deh liatnya, mukanya mesum gitu, kirim banci Ther suruh perkosa hohohoho.
Mentri juga oon, ada masalah main tutup aja, yah pake otak dunk, masa mo bunuh kecoak ampe bakar gudang, sinting!!!
Makin terpuruklah Indo, seperti jaman Orba, semua dibatesin pemerintah…
April 5th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Mungkin pemerintah Indo sebel ngeliat film Fitna yang membatasi kebebasan orang beragama, jadinya mereka balas dendam membatasi kebebasan kita berpornografi ria? Eh maksud gue, kebebasan dalam memperoleh “informasi”.
Kalau negara ini jadi kaya Arab, mendingan gue cauuuu…. lah yaw.

In my post about this ridiculous bit of blinkered and not very important section of the legislation concerning Indonesia’s internet security, I linked back to an earlier post of mine in which I commented that Roy Suryo had over-charged SBY in setting up the Presidential website. He was also responsible for having a Yogya blogger arrested for posting a photoshopped picture of Bambang Suharto snogging SBY.
RS is a pompous know-it-all, which is unfortunate considering how little he really understands.
If he reads this comment he may be interested to know that I published that picture just over two years ago.

New Order Mark II, anyone?
The danger is going to be in the implementing regulations that are yet to be drafted!
April 6th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
@jakartass:
I love that photoshopped image, I nearly pissed my pants laughing
I watched RS’ comments in regards to he nude photos of Dewi Sandra too and it didn’t seem like he was all that knowledgable.
Stretching? Filtering? Shadows? Even a ten year old could use better terms than those.
And he couldn’t even pronounce “Adobe” right.
What an eejit.
@Rob Baiton:
Funny how quick it was for the government to create this UU ITE and finish it within a month, while it takes ages for them to even draft an UU for Elections.
April 6th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Actually Therry, the Electronic Information and Transactions Law has been in gestation for a few years.
Sonny Zulhuda published a good summary in January this year, whilst the Jakarta Post had an editorial about it a couple of weeks ago. Both emphasise that the new law is badly needed in that it offers protection from hackers, security for online credit card transactions etc.
Shame it doesn’t protect us from the likes of aRSe.
April 6th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Hmmm I see. If it is intended for online credit card transactions then by all means I support it.
But from what I’ve heard and read, the government is more, much much more focused on banning pornography, and it seems that the UU ITE itself was created to support this action.
I mean, are they seriously going to go through ALL the existing porn sites in the world, because of course, they must look at the content first before deciding whether or not that site is worth banning, right?
And who is paying them whilst they’re sitting comfortably with Starbucks in hands, watching porn sites’ content, one by one … and another one… and another one …
if not us, the tax-payers? Briefly said, we’re paying THEM to watch porn while we’re banned for the same activity ourselves, even though we actually HAVE paid for it (subscribing to ISPs etc.)
God, I feel so duped!
Not that I watch porn or anything
April 7th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Roy what’s-his-name is probably chasing his demons. And as we all well know, someone who gets bothered by his/her demons should have some psychiatric consults.
And to all Indonesian bloggers: Keep up the figh!
April 7th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
roy suryo acts like he knows all but he had made many mistakes in the past so i don’t understand why he still has the guts to be that vocal. Tipe2 ‘temen bae’ si Therry nih…. taunya dikit tapi act like she has the whole world in her hands… sapa ya itu hehehe
April 7th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
It has come to my attention, also based on my experience, the stupid ones are usually the ones who talk too much about everything.
Whilst the more intelligent ones just sit and watch them idiots make a fool of themselves
April 8th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
I am an idiot who sits back, relax, don’t say much but just types what’s in my mind. lol
Our country is seriously turning into : a. Saudi Arabia, b. China or c. The
Republic of DeepShit.
I bet, if people had known that 10 years after the so-called calls for democracy and reformation and the downfall of Suharto we will be even more deprived of the basic human right that is the freedom of expression, they would prefer to do this with Suharto at the helms. At least the economy won’t be this bad. At least the ministers won’t be this idiotic. At least there won’t be people dying of hunger.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
naaah just blog-support,
can’t afford the bail money
(since you violate section 27 a lot .. did i mention a lot? hehe)
yep a real pain in the a**
(what a R rated blog)
April 8th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
I hope this is like the rules of dressing appropriately that swiped Jakarta for several months and then are gone forever. Remember everyone became paranoid and tried to wear “more-polite, more cover-up” dress. A friend was banned from entering Mulia Hotel as a result that time (and the poor duty manager received an earful complaint).
After a few months everybody will have moved on. Maybe it’s best to have one of the Azhari sisters to pose nude again so RS can spend his time to scrutinize the details. I’m sure he has a stack of porn as well, how could he compare the pics are real or fake if he didn’t have the real one?
April 8th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
@finally woken:
Haha! That is so true!
He’s such a pervert. Just look at the way he explains things, he stutters and use general terms that are not worthy of a so-called ‘expert’ to use.
Well, let’s just hope this is just a phase. There are much, much more important issues to be solved.
April 8th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
well..
Therry..
when there is a will there is a way…
when goverment block something, there’s still some other way we could menage to reroute. Its Indonesia, the country where regulation had a lot of hole in it.
when there’s none, the “oknum” would provide it.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:15 am
I am not surprised if one day, Indonesia will be mistaken for Iraq! Looks like RS acted like the know-it-all, oblivious, and perhaps stupid.. I wont say like cow because that will be an insult to the cows!
