On Remembering The Princess.

dogbookLast Friday, I received the much anticipated books from Elyani as a thank-you gift for the drawing of her lovely cat Suneo, who just got neutered a couple of months ago – poor thing!

The first book was The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Dogs, and the other one was a photography book titled Diana: Her Life in Photographs.

I was very much excited especially about the dog book since I never had one that was imported and I’d seen similar books like it in bookstores but never had the chance to purchase them since they were so bloody expensive, and I was such a tight-ass beyatch to begin with, so sue me.

Anyway, the book contained all the existing breeds of dogs in the world and I am guilty to say, the first breed that I looked up was the miniature Dachshund. I think it had become a bad habit of me checking up pictures and videos of long-haired mini Dachshunds on the internet just to find out whether they look anything like mine, because I was deeply anxious for Micah to grow his fur longer.

The second book, which was the Diana one, contained all the photos of Diana from she was a toddler, then

her teenage photos, her fairy-tale wedding and of course, her days after the divorce. I must say, looking at private photos of someone I didn’t know personally made me feel somewhat uncomfortable – as if I was snooping around into her personal life or something. And yet, those photos made me feel a bit closer to her, as if I got to know her a lot more than just the stories I used to read from the newspaper describing her scandals and affairs and what-elses.

dianalookHer signature stare – the bowed head and the eyes staring up – was the one captured in many different photos, ever since she was a young girl. I couldn’t help but thinking how much of a roller-coaster her life must had been, and those eyes seem to want to tell more. Despite all the attention she got and the tragic death caused by the endless media and paparazzi chase, she was just an ordinary woman who wanted to live her life peacefully.

Sometimes, I wondered whether she really did die, as there is a theory, amongst many of them, saying that she is actually very much alive and living in an exotic island or something, and that her death was actually staged so that she could continue the rest of her life without the ever-presence of the media following her every move.

Whatever is the truth, it’s out there, and she has always been that special figure in which people take so much interest with, even after all these years.

Really, Princess Diana was patron saint of Singleton women because she started off like the archetypal fairy tale doing what we all thought we were supposed to do i.e. marry a handsome prince, and she was honest enough to say that life is not like that… Also, she kept reinventing herself and sorting out ther problems. She was always just trying so hard like modern women.” – Bridget Jones’ Diary: Edge of Reason.
