Last Friday, I received the much anticipated books from Elyani as a thank-you gift for the drawing of her lovely cat Suneo, who just got neutered a couple of months ago – poor thing!
The first book was The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Dogs, and the other one was a photography book titled Diana: Her Life in Photographs.
I was very much excited especially about the dog book since I never had one that was imported and I’d seen similar books like it in bookstores but never had the chance to purchase them since they were so bloody expensive, and I was such a tight-ass beyatch to begin with, so sue me.
Anyway, the book contained all the existing breeds of dogs in the world and I am guilty to say, the first breed that I looked up was the miniature Dachshund. I think it had become a bad habit of me checking up pictures and videos of long-haired mini Dachshunds on the internet just to find out whether they look anything like mine, because I was deeply anxious for Micah to grow his fur longer.
The second book, which was the Diana one, contained all the photos of Diana from she was a toddler, then

her teenage photos, her fairy-tale wedding and of course, her days after the divorce. I must say, looking at private photos of someone I didn’t know personally made me feel somewhat uncomfortable – as if I was snooping around into her personal life or something. And yet, those photos made me feel a bit closer to her, as if I got to know her a lot more than just the stories I used to read from the newspaper describing her scandals and affairs and what-elses.
Her signature stare – the bowed head and the eyes staring up – was the one captured in many different photos, ever since she was a young girl. I couldn’t help but thinking how much of a roller-coaster her life must had been, and those eyes seem to want to tell more. Despite all the attention she got and the tragic death caused by the endless media and paparazzi chase, she was just an ordinary woman who wanted to live her life peacefully.
Sometimes, I wondered whether she really did die, as there is a theory, amongst many of them, saying that she is actually very much alive and living in an exotic island or something, and that her death was actually staged so that she could continue the rest of her life without the ever-presence of the media following her every move.
Whatever is the truth, it’s out there, and she has always been that special figure in which people take so much interest with, even after all these years.
“Really, Princess Diana was patron saint of Singleton women because she started off like the archetypal fairy tale doing what we all thought we were supposed to do i.e. marry a handsome prince, and she was honest enough to say that life is not like that… Also, she kept reinventing herself and sorting out ther problems. She was always just trying so hard like modern women.” – Bridget Jones’ Diary: Edge of Reason.

Free books? My favourite kind of books for sure!
Do write more on the Diana book. Sounds very interesting. I hope it covers something else than all the other books / tvs have been covering …

Hi Therry, glad to hear you enjoyed the books. On neutering Suneo, well my niece shared the same sentiment with you when she first heard about that. But when I see there are hundreds of stray cats outside that do not get sufficient food and are exposed to diseases and to the taunting and cruelty of heartless people, I think I did the right thing for Suneo. He is clean, well-fed, healthy and possesses an impressive intelligence that I thought only dogs have.
Late Princess Diana’s book was bought a few months before her tragic death. It was not intentional. I just needed an excuse so my friend Joanna would take me to Harrods. I was so eager to see what Harrod’s like just because I’ve been reading a lot about that place. So what better excuse can I use than buying a book since everything else there was expensive? As for the princess, all the good ones die young, and that is how we will all remember her as the young pretty and loving Princess.

@Andie Summerkiss:
Yes, free books
Don’t you just love it when people send you stuff that you love? I LOVE books. Hehe.
I wish I could write more on the Diana book but since it’s a photography book, perhaps you have to look at it yourself to be able to capture the feeling of looking at the princess’ life in photographs.
There is one description in the book that says, “In the leading days up to her wedding, Diana’s hesitant glance expressed her youth and innocence, her eyes betraying the unworldliness of a girl not yet turned twenty.”
I think that sounds both heart-breaking and sad, to imagine someone so young already dedicating her life to the British monarch and being chased around by paparazzi thus never actually received the happiness she so obviously deserved.
@Elyani:
Actually I felt sorry because Suneo had to endure being neutered but I am very much like you – I support your decision and I’ve been wanting to neuter Micah too but I see it has no point since I don’t allow him to be out of the house without a leash on and he’s the only pet in the house anyway.
As for the good ones dying young, there is another quote from Bridget Jones’ Diary that seems to fit that theory, “She was our national treasure and all feel very bad that everyone was so niggardly about her and she did not like being in England. Is like great big hand coming down from heaven saying, ‘If you are going to squabble about her no one is going to have her’”.

Had I known about free books from Elyani, I would have sent my version of Suneo’s graphic design to her. LOL. So sweet both of you.

yes, diana is pretty much alive and kicking. she lives in a very secret tropical paradise not far from hawaii with elvis, heath ledger, marylin monroe, JFK and Chris Farley.
Ok, maybe not Chris Farley, but the others are true, I swear!

She said that’s Di is an ICON of
woman’s role in world
Di.. hmm..
I appreciate her humble attitude.

Yes Reedler, she is a beautiful person inside and outside ^^
Too bad the world didn’t appreciate her enough – perhaps that was why she was, ahem, “taken away”.
