Command & Conquer!

line

Command & ConquerFor those of you who haven’t heard of Command & Conquer from Electronic Arts (or mostly known as EA games), it’s actually a computer game; an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game to be exact.

I know, I know. I don’t look like the computer-gamer type of girl, but I used to play that game when I was younger; it was my older brother who introduced it to me and to make it even worse I wasn’t even good at it. I just liked playing it for fun. I also used to play Warcraft but then never got around to finish it because it just kept getting harder and harder.

So yesterday I was at this software shop (don’t even ask whether it’s a legal or illegal kind) with my beau and I noticed Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars on display. All of a sudden memories were coming back to me and I was reminded how much fun it was playing this game just for the sake of it – I knew my brother would always save my ass when I was on the verge of getting ambushed by the enemies anyway.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium WarsSo my beau, being the nice person that he was, bought the game for me as he’d noticed I was somewhat holding the piece of plastic covered CDs quite gingerly, though he couldn’t help shooting an amused look to me as if to say, “You play that?”

Anyway – brought the game home, and tried to install the game – it came in 2 CDs set. And guess what? It didn’t work. The instruction was no help either, although I’d followed every step precisely like it said (with much difficulty in trying to understand it, of course):

1. Siap install …. buka “Run Me 1st” dulu…. ke Start Menu trus Play Command & Conquer.

2. Mean deh..!!!

When I tried to play the game I kept getting a dialog box that said I had a DLL file missing and that it was better that I reinstalled the program. So I tried reinstalling the program again. For about five times. Nothing doing. The game was fucked.

I had to return it to the shop today and they told me to exchange it with another game that came in 2 CDs a piece. Still not wanting to give up, I ended up choosing Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath (crazy-ass title) which came not in CD version but in DVD; the whole two pieces of them. It was more expensive but I was determined.

Came home, tried installing it – didn’t work. After all those extracting so many RAR files that I didn’t previously endure during the installation of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, I got this message instead:

You must have Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars installed to play Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath.

Argh! I give up. Maybe the divine being does not approve of me playing games, for fear of me wasting even more time than I already do.

Unless…

Anyone wants to help me? Anyone at all?

  1. No, you must no longer play those kinds of games. Wii is ok, but not these. These kinds of games are for boys, not for proper young ladies.

Oh but wait a minute, you are nowhere near proper, are you? ;)

LOL. You got that right, Rim. I dunno … I guess it’s all my brother’s fault – I was his playmate when we were younger; so little army dudes, racing cars, Tamiyas and warcrime RTS games were the ones I was familiar with, growing up. I didn’t start playing Barbies until I got to third grade, I think. Back then, Barbies were way, way expensive and those little green army dudes … well, they had more appearl lol.

  3. I love computer games too, but more to the feminine side (although I am nowhere feminine either) like The Sims 2. I love building houses and decorating them, pretending that I am the greatest interior designer of all time (I usually cheat the money stuff – I am not all interested in making my Sims work hard and earn little money to live in a shitty house LOL)

Hahah! I used to play the Sims too, and it was my brother (again) who introduced me to it. But I got bored of it also because it was too… uhm, domestic. Go figure, lol

C&C is actually quite biblical~ the main antagonist: Kane is the depiction of Old Testament’s Cain — the first murderer who killed his own brother: Abel. Even the group ‘Brotherhood of Nod’ is named after the land of Nod, where Cain fled to after committed the murder. I’ve always believe the myth that women are more proficient in multi-tasking and for the same reason I also believe that they can excel in micro-management games, such as RTS games.

Ahh yes, I remember this too. It’s not the first game that used biblical reference ;) Anyway, I don’t think I’m the category of girls who excel in micro-management games lol… I’m just doing it for fun and it gets annoying when things that I want to do for fun purposes become so difficult to do lol

The Cain and Abel saga is one of my favourite part of the Old Testament: not only because it’s one of the very rare occassions where all three Abrahamic religions could agree — but more importantly: it is the very first moment where a human was given a clue by God through a pair of ravens on what to do with dead people (how to do a proper burial).

My fave part of the Old Testament is The Psalm… it’s so wise and happy and cheery and it makes me feel good reading it hehe … Haven’t seen you for a while JD, where did you go? You like my new blog? *nudge2*

I haven’t yet bought the c&c 3. Last year I picked up “Command and Conquer The First Decade” which contains all the Red Alert and Tiberium Sun sagas except the newest versions. We used to play this game years ago when I worked in Saudi Arabia – We even went so far as to wire up a network in our housing compound so we could play team games. It became serious recreation -our opponents were using 2way radios to coordinate their assaults. Good fun while it lasted.

You guys really took the game business seriously back then! So what happens now, you no longer play? Too busy reading Orwell? ;)

The turn the last comment took should warn me to keep out of sight ( always leave a loving couple alone) and I’m not of any help in the domain of gaming either, but somehow I’m too glad to have found your new hiding place to be able to skip the opportunity to leave a note saying: ‘you’re new place is wonderful’.

Welcome to my new house, Colson! Do come by often, you’re always welcomed :) And oh, don’t forget to update my blog link in yours to the new address! :D

Hmm never tried that version before..

    isn’t that the one
    that you have to use
    Daemon / Alcohol Software :D

YES!!! Alcohol 52% !! I don’t even know what it is! I don’t remember installing PC games to be this difficult and full of riddles. The instruction even went as far as saying “Mount the image with alcohol” and at first I was taking it quite literally! I need help installing this game. I will not be conquered!

now? my pc can’t support newer games. HAHAHA.

a good thing, i s’pose. or else i might be addicted once more…

Does Isman have something to do with you not being able to play games? *eyeing Isman suspiciously a la Chuck Norris when he’s crossed*

Neverwinter Nights is a cool game – I love the music in it :)

ther, what Operating system do you use?
if you use vista, try to reinstall directx 9c.
ya ya.. I know that vista already had directx 10. but there still some dll that dx 10 doesn’t have and dx 9c had.

I use Windows XP Home Edition, which came with the Fujitsu laptop upon its purchase. So should I install DirectX 9 then? Cuz it came with the game as well. Hang on … does that mean I still have to buy C&C Tiberium Wars?? Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah… help me Woelankk!

  13. i’m more of a game console kinda girl… havin said that, i’ve somewhat quit playin games coz the exhole is a huge gamer.

    so bollocks to him!

I’m just too fucking cheap to shed money for a game console – I want everything to be in one place – work and play in my laptop. Unwise, I know.

Any new postings?? Or drawings, perhaps?

  14. Stuart plays this. He was pissed off because his score/rank (?) was deleted after he took his PC to get it fixed, so now he plays everyday to get his score back. He usually plays online against a friend too.

    Boys will be boys.

    Wait.
    Therry isn’t a boy! *lol

Anyway, I like games, the problem is I’m easy to get addicted. When I was in Sydney I was so in the playstation games I used to skip classes (ssstt..), so now maybe Scramble at FB aja deh… :)

Ohoho… you’re a bad girl! I actually haven’t played computer games for ages – boy have they improved so much (including their installation process) to look even more fiddly and sophisticated.

Anyway … I seriously suck at Scramble! And Text Twirl too! I think my English is deteriorating …

Ah! You’re just like Rima, Wii Fanatics! Why bored? I thought it could help you do all kinds of crazy exercise like yoga pilates etc., no??

    dear therry….
I presume you buy the original mangdu/GPL (Glodok Public License) version right…
As far as I know, every expansion pack of a PC games always need the first original one.
so if C&C III:TW is the first original one, to install C&C III:KW you need to had a working C&C III:TW in your PC first.

Dude! I asked a friend who had installed C&C and he said (check this out) he installed C&C Kane’s Wrath without having to install C&C Tiberium Wars! but the fucktard didn’t want to tell me how! I’m so frigging pissed off! Anyway yes, the game is GPL lol, and there is Alcohol 52% in it which I have to use to “mount the image” I don’t know what that means the only mounting I know is when graphic design students have to present their works or else when a guy is mounting a girl but that’s a different story … So do I have to buy C&C Tiberium Wars also?

    @donna & therry
    you play neverwinter night? cool..
to bad I never play the 2nd.
just wishing to had some times to play some good RPG now a days…

    if that so….
you better consult me or someone who usualy used GPL software directly.
its a public place, not a proper place to speak about how to installed a “badjakeun” right… :D
I’ll send you my ym id to your email after this…

I’m online! Where are you? Have added your too! Current problem now: Can’t even remove virtual drive from my laptop. This game is doomed. I’m doomed!

But now, oiiich… different stress needs different entertainment.

    When you say:

Argh! I give up. Maybe the divine being does not approve of me playing games, for fear of me wasting even more time than I already do.

    Unless…

Anyone wants to help me? Anyone at all?

The simple solution is, you buy the book or use the cheating codes, i think you can browse it on the net…

    Have fun :D

Aiya. It’s so expensive already to buy the *cough* pirated version of it and now I have to shed some money to buy the guide book too? And what’s this about cheating codes? I never! (liar liar pants on fire)
