Me and Her

8 Jul 2008

The internet is indeed a wonderful thing – it made me realize that I have more than one soulmates. In this case, though, it happens to be a woman.

It all started on a harmless blogwalking activity in the dead of the night – one of those nights when I couldn’t sleep and yearned for something to take my mind off the edge – and I stumbled upon this blog profile of a woman whose name was enough to pique my curiosity.

So I visited her blog and just with one post, I was hooked – her writings were funny, sassy, outrageous and so honest I felt like I was in love with her already – not in a full-throttle lesbian kind of way, just a mild one – and soon enough I frequented her blog almost every day and I couldn’t help myself from commenting. Each posting always topped up the one before, and I was all set to wanting to get to know her better.

Happy that she returned the favor by being a regular visitor – and commenter – of mine, soon enough we were adding each other on Facebook, Friendster, Multiply and any other social networks sites we had floating around on the virtual world.

But I remember clearly that the first chatting session we had was simply mind-blowing – she was like a long lost friend I never had; chatting with her was so easy and despite the age difference, we could talk about almost anything, and in a spooky kind of way, very often we found that we finished each other sentences as if our brains hovered on the same frequency.

Chatting sessions became daily, and there were times when one of us couldn’t make it online and we’d miss the company (in a sisterly / mild lesbian kind of way), or the jokes and crazy stories we shared with each other.

I remember the first time I visited her blog (it was a wee gem waiting to be discovered) there weren’t that many visitors then but now, four months on, she had simply become the goddess of the blogosphere world. Well, a sexy one at that. I often joked that I was merely a catalyst to get her blog famous but of course it was all thanks to her down-to-earth attitude and witty articles she’d shared in her blogs that got people interested.

My beau – surprisingly enough – didn’t mind me spending so much time chatting with her, as he even said to me once, “It seems like both of you really suit each other well – which is funny since you’re oceans apart and never even met each other before.”

I was lucky to get to know her – as a friend, and as a soulmate – she’s one of those rarities in life – you know, when you stumble upon a person of whom you can talk about anything and share a great connection with.

If you’re wondering who I’m talking about (but I’m guessing by now you already know), and wanting to get to know this fabulous girl as well, you can read all about her here.

Spontaneous and reciprocal friendship: the best there is. The posts you dedicate to each other are a kind of public declaration of loving friendship. I somehow admire this bravery.

But, what do you think, is there any sense in what Oscar Wilde once seems to have said: `A true friend stabs you in the front´? (That is as opposed to a false friend who stabs in the back, I assume).

And she doesn’t bitch people’s writings like that other blogging girlfriend you have. Anyways it’s good to have a bestfriend, I have a few in real life. Real life. Reality.

Maybe what personal bloggers seek in cyber is mainly things that they canot have in reality, eh? Heheh.

Don’t bitch others if you don’t wanna be bitched at. That’s my motto with my friends, both guy or girl.

Hey Cha, if you have a problem with one blogger in particular perhaps you should solve it with that person, in that person’s blog, because maybe it’s all just a matter of misunderstanding. I don’t really want unpleasant atmosphere in my blog, sorry. good luck!

I am so very jealous of these girls too, tree. I swear, they’re like 17 year olds! Look at these bloggers jumping up and down euphorically in happiness, while obsessively sound so hateful and negative about everything else in this country! Islam and all.

Some people call it: bipolar disorder.

So yes, I am jealous. Being sane is so depressing.

@ colson

Now that you’ve mentioned backstabbing..

Well nevermind.

@ post

I must correct this notion:

Maybe what personal bloggers seek in cyber is mainly things that they canot have in reality, eh?

Not all, just some. The pathetic ones.

I am jealous too!! I think it’s great to have a best friend be it in reality or in cyber and it’s good to find someone who can make us feel younger than we actually are. Sometimes I forget to act my age too when I’m around people I’m comfortable with… I’m sure most of us are like that.

I love both your blogs…be it Rima’s or yours, Ther. They are so frank and outspoken. Although not everyone may like what they read, in reality, hate it or love it, you both already win places in these people’s hearts….just like in mine ^^

None of us are really concerned that much about our age when we’re around our friends – be it cyber or REAL friends, whatevs – as long as they make us feel good about ourselves, isn’t that the most important thing?

Unfortunately some people think I should act my age (or maybe the speed limit?), but that’s their problem not mine ;)

You say you have had a blogger bitching in your blog. I believed and symphatized with you. Now I read this in therry’s blog, and you are directly insulting me and therry, saying we are insane (see your comment for tree) plus the other comment you write in therry’s post ‘hot babe who blogs’. What is it are you trying to do?

Are you trying to drive more traffic to your blog with this strategy? Have therry and anita said anything bad about you? Have i said anything bad about you?

As far as i can remember, NEITHER of us ever commented negatively in your blog, or in anybody’s blog ABOUT YOU. And we certainly do not deserve your hateful comments.

Maybe you should take a chill pill and think before you say anything because really, all this negativity you have is all in your mind.

Drive more traffic to my blog? Hey, I could just simply use Digg or StumbleUpon for that. Do you actually think that the Journal’s traffic comes from comments? Wrong. It comes from Google organic search results, ma’am.

For those who don’t understand what’s this about, stay out of this. If what I say intimidate you in a way, perhaps it’s because you’re so vain, you think everything in this world is about you. So, get over yourself, get yourself a mirror and lick yourself on it.

Sorry though if I did spoil this girlish party. I find it weird though that months ago, you people are exactly ones criticizing on religious issues, complaining on how the world is, the politics, social stereotyping and all. Now take a look at yourselves. You sound like a bunch of ibu-ibu arisan gossiping.

Not that it’s wrong or anything. But at least the real ibu-ibu arisan is consistent on who they are.

Who’s looking for traffic all this time, huh? Who’s looking for attention? Don’t be such a hypocrite, ladies. Women like you ‘udah ngga jamannya lagi’ in this country.

Marisa is this what you’re becoming after deciding to quit blogging but cancel it? You change yourself from being sweet smart Marisa to a bitchy one?

Seriously I don’t understand why you drastically change in 3 days (see comment no.16 and 18 to no.20 in here). Has something happened? Have I (and Therry) offended you in a way? Where, when, what sentence? I sincerely don’t know. I have visited your blog and tried to find out which comments that might be too harsh, but I hardly left comments there, let alone being bitchy to you. But again, maybe my definition is different from yours.

However, if I HAVE offended you, you could talk to me directly nicely (you do have my email address), not using other people’s blogs as a medium. And if I did say something that has offended you, I’d gladly apologise.

But I’m lost in this. I believe many start questioning too.

Dear Marisa,

You insulted me, when I have NEVER insulted you. I was an admirer, I really enjoyed your posts, and i thought you were a very intelligent woman, which you can see from my comments in your blog.

You posted the hey mister entry in your blog. I symphatized with you because I have been there, having a person bitching about me for no apparent reason.

Suddenly, here you are, bitching about us (again, look at your comment to tree) implying we are insane. Also, you insinuated that, and I quote “Maybe what personal bloggers seek in cyber is mainly things that they canot have in reality, eh?”
In a post that is talking about 2 bloggers that have never met, clicking.

Any SANE person would think you are insulting me and Therry, which is funny, because we never even MENTIONED YOU in this post, or comments etc.

If you are as sane as you say you are, put yourself in my shoes, what do you think this all means?

I do not think everything in this world is about me, I was just concerned because you say you hate people bitching in your blog, while you are doing JUST THAT in Therry’s blog. The poor thing doesn’t even know what she did to deserve this wrath of yours.

Personally, I have not been hypocritical and say that I don’t need traffic, or don’t want attention and such. I have said numerous times that i like attention. But that is me, what you see is what you get with me.

Of course I do not think ibu ibu arisan are beneath me, nor do i think bloggers who blog recipes or song lyrics are beneath me either. I think we all have special talents and can attract people to our blogs in different ways.

I do rant about indonesian politics and religious issues but i dont bother myself with petty gossip. And although sometimes I have a mouth like a truckdriver’s, I say what I mean and do not hide behind anyone or a name, and I stand by it. When I’m wrong I will apologize, you should do the same.

I see you have commented on therry’s shoubox with the name BENCONG. It is you, it’s the same IP address as your other messages.

You are an intelligent young woman, at least that is what I gathered by reading your blog, but this kind of attitude is something that should be beneath you, not foodie bloggers or personal bloggers. THIS KIND OF ATTITUDE!

I might be an over-aged ibu-ibu, but I am content with myself and do not feel the need to bash other people and other people’s blog like what you have done in the past few months with colson, mulia, and now with therry, anita and myself.

you said you have plenty of blog traffic, but you have mentioned several times that your blog is deserted or ’sepi’. You have said in your 50 typical indo blogger post that you think people who promote their blogs in other people’s are pathetic, but yet you asked therry to review your blog. If you think Therry is such a bad person, why did you do that?

salam!

Anita.

Do you know the English word for ‘menyinyir’? Because I don’t know a better word to express it. You constantly ‘menyinyir’ in the Journal. And I am quite sure, Anita, that you enough brain cells in your head to state your opinion without being such a bitch about it.

I first thought you speak THAT way naturally and you also ‘menyinyir’ in other blogs. I was wrong on that, apparently you’ve been awfully nice and polite in other blogs. You just ‘menyinyir’ in the Journal. Why?

This is a matter of conscience, this is a matter of listening to yourself when you state your opinion. This is a matter of respecting others if you want to be respected. Bear in mind though that respecting is not ass-kissing, because I genuinely despise ass kissers — even if it is my cute tight ass they kiss for no reason why.

Now you’re nice to me. Very calm, which is very good.
For a person that is constantly criticizing everything to nothing in life, from black leggings, web scrapers, teenagers, private bloggers, binge drinking and tons of other stuffs, you sure are displaying extreme self control at the moment.

Extreme.

But let me ask YOU something.
Have I made any mistake to YOU?
You’ve never regard me as a friend, that’s for sure. I did want to be your friend, y’know. And therry’s, and rima’s.
That’s why I’m not surprised if you didn’t invite me to join you and therry at Cazbar, when in fact I did know that you were going to be in Jakarta, and at that time I was trying to get everyone together for a meet-up (left YOU a message in the shoutbox, an announcement at IM, private messages to several bridge-bloggers, not to mention several times implying the idea in my posts). Basically the whole world knows I wanted a meet-up, which is quite sad.

And when therry and you requested something personal about me for the Journal. I posted. Therry commented. Even Rima and Rob commented on it. Have you at least tried to comment on the post? Have you had no heart in there, Anita? Do you think that you can just do whatever you feel like, order people around, thinking you’re the boss in this place?
You’re not, okay. At least, you’re not the boss of me.
You cannot intimidate your way into controlling a person like me. Understand?

There’s another theory. Perhaps it’s because you are a personal blogger. Personal bloggers, sorry to say, tend to misunderstood niche blogs and the purpose of them being around. It’s as if we’re being arrogant or exclusive with our content or something. In addition, she’s married. Married personal blogger. Do you know what we singles truly think when you married peoples rant without purpose? We think you just need ‘pelampiasan’. You people just need to vent somewhere. And yes, to share stories, give compliments and say nice things to each other. Those little cute adorable things that keep you normal.

Thing is. Singles do that too, but we don’t spit on others hard work. Because we know how hard work means. Married bloggers like Anita here have somehow forgotten that fact.

Bottom line, Anita.
You suck.

Peace to the world. :D

ROTFL Marisa. OH MY GOD….

Really I have no idea if my opinions are considered “menyinyir”. That’s how I think about stuff posted on blogs, regardless which blog I visit. Ask anyone else. Ask Jakartass, Rob Baiton, even Parvita or Oigal. I’m true to myself. At the end, I NEVER attacked you personally, Marisa, I simply question your posts, your ideas. Boleh dong? Or you want everybody to nod and bow and say “yes, Ma’am”? That’s how I start thinking now, that you’re not a person who’s mature enough to know that not everyone agrees with you.

Unfortunately you can’t see this. You think I dislike you, personally for no apparent reason. How untrue.

And yet, rather than clearing this with me directly, you go around other blogs and do something like this? I don’t understand.

If you think I am criticizing everything, from what I see, I merely question everything (and black legging comment? seriously? you think I was being harsh? let others be the judge, but anyway, I apologise from the bottom of my heart if I have offended you. Apparently it’s your favorite attire. Sorry).

And Marisa, really, OH MY GOD! If you’re sooooo desperate and want to meet me and other bloggers, you DO have my email address, why didn’t you simply email me and leave your mobile number so I could contact you? I would have missed the shoutbox, but I wouldn’t miss the email.

This is a very silly misunderstanding and yet you went blogwalking, leaving so many harsh comments in so many blogs, trying to grab my attention? I never do that to you Marisa. That’s not me. If I don’t like you I’d say it right in front of you, in your blog. Not by being rude to the blogowners at other people’s blogs. That’s very impolite.

Since when I’m controlling you?? For God’s sake Marisa I’m just a human being, I’m not your mother, your teacher, your employer. What power do I have to control you? If I don’t leave comments in your blog, that’s totally my right. But let me tell you one thing. I do blogwalking regularly, and I never miss to visit your blog. There are lots of other blogs which I visit but hardly comment. Why do you have to be mad because of lack of comments from me? Since when I obtain an obligation to do that? However I actually feel sooo flattered that you want to have my comments soo badly you went mad like this. It’s cute.

I don’t understand why you think me being married makes me think I’m different. I am different because I have been through some unique experience that not everybody has, and that’s why people read my blog. I never classify myself as personal blogger or expat blogger or whatever. If you think I rant for no purpose why you keep coming back to my blog (as well as other 200 people a day, at least)? I am really sorry if you think I don’t understand your blog Marisa. You should see yourself in the mirror before you say something. Apparently it’s the other way around, people don’t understand yours and despite your comments here that you don’t need traffic, I know you complained to Therry once that your blog is quiet hence you’re thinking about quitting. And you blame me and other people for not understanding your blog, which is insane. I don’t control you or the people to go to your blog.

Bottom line Marisa, this is not how people make friends. I did want to be your friend Marisa, but not anymore. You scare me.

If you think I suck, that’s fine. Others do love me. For real. In reality.

Several typos up there. Sorry, a bit sleepy.

And I am quite sure, Anita, that you enough brain cells in your head to state your opinion without being such a bitch about it.

Should’ve been:
And I am quite sure, Anita, that you have enough brain cells in your head to state your opinion without being such a bitch about it.

In addition, she’s a married blogger.

Should’ve been:
In addition, you’re a married blogger.

As for the question on why this is on therry’s blog:

therry. That’s just how friendship is.
You cannot only want the good stuffs from a friend — YOURS that is, not mine — and not want the bad stuffs. I share ALL with me good friends, both the good and the bad in us. That’s why I have a very, very few best friends in real life. It’s because they’re special, they’ve been doing stupid things for me as I’ve been doing stupid things for them. Of course they rarely say nice things to me, they don’t give me presents and all that, they don’t even read anything in the Journal except when I forced them too! But know what, I can go messed up crazee with them without being judged or judging others. And they love music, which makes them my favorite type of people of all. If there’s any blogger ruined my day, they’re the ones who are standing by OUT THERE. They’ve been doing so for years. I hate them for it.

Anyways. There’s this saying that goes:
Who you make friends with, defines who you are. Gitu aje sih.

People like Anita perhaps can define YOU, but not me.

As for the question on why rimafauzi is in this mess too:

Because the more the merrier. Why, rima? I forgot!
Too sleepy to continue.

That would be all, folks.

Marisa’s last blog post..Pirates of Silicon Valley

Cha, the only person that needs to define me is myself. Not Anita, not Rima, not you. Perhaps it sounds pathetic to have an ‘online’ cyber friends in the virtual world, but Rima and Anita are friends, nonetheless, regardless where and how I met them.

I don’t categorize my friends based on the ways I met them either online, offline. I met plenty of friends online who became friends in real life. Just like you, I never want to be friends with those who judge me.

I’ve experienced myself being friends with people who are only nice to me when in times of needs, and also with people who suddenly appreciate me for my status. That’s why I like being friends with Anita and Rima, because they appreciate me and accept me for who I am regardless.

Anita, Rima, Ivy, Elyani and Cn and many other friends I have, they all have different backgrounds, so I don’t think they can define who I really am – but perhaps there are little bits of me who can understand who they are? So be it.

I read in your blog that you preferred to confront a person directly without involving anyone else, but what I am seeing here is you’re doing exactly the opposite of it.

I shall de-blogroll you as you wish, which saddens me because I think you could have been a great friend, but perhaps you never have thought the same of me, since it was so easy for you to name-call me with all the terms you could think of – in my blog too – but perhaps we are not on the same level of thinking.

Is this your “coming out of the closet” blog?
Rima is well… who would not like Rima? Beauty and brains together, sad she is taken :(

Dotsson’s last blog post..Bye Bye Saudi Arabia 6

Hey Dotsson! Not really, Rima and I just ran out of idea on what to post and it seemed like a great way to increase each other’s traffic lol

Rima is the goddess of awesomeness, I think she’s setting up her own religion – you should go and give her some virtual offerings now and pledge your allegiance to worship her :P

Dear All,

I have gotta say that this has been an interesting read!

I was just going to ignore this post because cyber-lesbianism does not really do it for me. But when I saw that there were 37 comments then my interest was peaked and I thought I better see what these comments were about.

I have had my share of battles and had a real ding dong slap down battle with Anita a while back of expats and locals. It was in the end a misunderstanding and when we both pulled back a little and reconsidered it turned out we agreed on a lot of things and those things we disagreed on, well we agreed to disagree on!

But back to the lesbiansim. I am disappointed that there was not more talk on lesbianism in Indonesia. And if all you girls do decide to get together then do not forget to invite us fellas. I cannot speak on behalf of GJ or the Tree but I am happy to be a spectator.

Does Cazbar do jelly or mud wrestling? Now, I am thinking we could do a promotion here for alternative bloggers who do not want to do Pesta Blogger 2008. Just a thought :D

In general, the blogosphere allows us to vent. We should probably restrict our rants to our own blogs but sometimes we let the cat out of the bag and then it is a free-for-all!

For me there are no topics off limits. Religion in Indonesia is always a topic of interest. If people want to say that the way things in Indonesia are going then the future looks bleak and they do it all the time, then to each their own. I have always founf that I am challenged to engage these pundits on an academic and intellectual level.

Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. That for me is reality. The world is not always the happy go lucky place we might hope it to be. It might be the 21st Century and all but the world still has its share of tyrants, despots, and dictators. It also has good people, but focusing only on the good does not rid us of the bad and the evil.

My philosophy has always been that if I do not like some one’s blog then I just do not go there. I vote with my mouse! Most of you who have commented here are in my blog roll…I like to share the lurrrrrrrrrvvvvvveeeeeee! The fact that you are still there means that I appreciate and respect your individual takes on the world, I might not agree with you all of the time, but who cares I do not agree with all people all of the time.

You can tell that I have taken Rima’s advice and popped a chill pill but I think I might have over-dosed….is there a remedy?

Have a nice weekend one and all! :D Peace and Love!

Therry…

Sorry about the length (of my post that is)!

That’s perfectly fine, Rob! Being such a wise and positive-thinking person I admire your ability to accept people with all their differences, including their thoughts and the way they express their opinions and feelings ;)

Sorry Therry for hijacking your blog (again) but I’ve gotta say there are not many bloggers I truly respect, however, Rob is not one of them. No matter ‘hot’ the debate is, he’s always able to maintain his perspective and wouldn’t fall into a trap of name calling, badmouthing, and bitching. Even when I was having an argument with him, I (secretly) admire him (well now the cat is out of the bag, but again, cat doesn’t eat vegetable, but whatever…).
And agree with Rima, can’t add anything else, his comment sums up everything!

PS: I can suggest jelly mud wrestling at Cazbar (2nd floor would be a perfect spot) to the manager, Jasper, if there are enough participants. So let’s vote?

Finally Woken’s last blog post..Me and Them; A(n Almost) Lesbian Love Story

I didn’t know Jasper was the manager! I was wondering how he was able to sit there for ages without having the guilty feeling of using the wi-fi for hours and only allow himself a cup of expresso and a few bites of sandwiches lol.

Btw, what is jelly mud wrestling? Mud and jelly combined? Or is it sort of like mudcake dough with jelly? Anyway I’m sure I’ll be content enough to be a part of the spectators instead of the participants.

FW (aka Anita)…

Thanks…

Suggest it! But choose jelly or mud…because I am thinking combining the two would be a right royal mess!

The other choice is EP (they have a sort of beer garden out the back, don’t they?)…

Just in case anyone is interested, my cat really enjoys a mixed diet and vegetables are an important part of making sure every food group is covered :D

Once again, enjoy the weekend!

Man I can’t believe it’s Monday tomorrow …

Heeeeeeeey Silly, did you enjoy the little entertainment that had befallen my poor blog? LOL… perhaps instead of anger-management, a “How to Overcome your Attention Deficit Disorder” book sounds like a much better reccommendation ha3x.

*covering my ears to avoid the feud*
such a sweet post, what a nice way to appreciate something (friendship, regardless it’s cyber or in real life) and someone.

Diny’s last blog post..Yes, We Are Screening Your Calls

Yes!! This post was an appreciation indeed! It was it’s honest intention to do so, so I don’t know how the hell it could spark negative energies which bubbled up into this massive emotional explosion that was unecessary and might I say, quite stupid!

Hi everyone.
I’m Marisa’s (icha) friend. I’m not here to trash anyone’s blog or to fight. On contrary I regret that this should happened. I know some of you here as her regular commenters and am one too. I also know that most of you here are colson’s friends or know icha from colson.
We’ve tried to post follow-up on this matter(it’s still written by marisa) at http://unspunblog.com but somehow the blogger in charge (ong hock chuan) have blocked the comment. The hey mister post is set to private and not deleted, icha said because it’s already in that blog and ppl can talk about it there.
We’ve also been questioning icha on why she seemed like intentionally putting herself in this difficult situation (intentionally confronting a certain demographic) and why she let ong hock chuan interfere with this matter, abruptly making her as the object. We know her in person, that’s why we notice that there’s something wrong..
Even so she deserves the right to feel angry to certain bloggers like the way you feel now. She has mentioned about this several times before, mainly because she’s really trying to adapt with you here. Imho, she has tried hard enough for something that she never did want in the first place.
Until now she hasn’t answered any of my questions and I can’t understand why..
I don’t know if this matters or not but even if you no longer like who she is or you hate her, it doesn’t change the fact that Journal by Lightbeamers has contributed something and maybe more. She also deleted any comment that speaks harshly about you ppl, mine is one of them actually hehe..
Why vegetables? Because lamb chop is supposed to be for dinner?
Thanks for this chance and as I said, I regret the fact that it should be ended this way. I’m sure that you guys here are great great people, just not the right ones in the right place.

I don’t have a public blog (i have but it’s just for family n close friends for now), so pls excuse me for not submitting URL

Sorry, Lily. I don’t understand the bit when you change yourself from “we” to “I” back and forth – are you speaking on behalf of many people?

If I call you an overaged spoilt brat now, and delete those words tomorrow, does that make it okay? We know The Journal has contributed something – it is a great blog from a (used to be) great blogger, which was why it came to our surprise to witness such abrupt change of personality from her directed to me in my blog, even though it was clear she was having a fit with someone else.

What I still don’t understand is – if Marisa has a problem with Anita, why not confront her in her blog? Or write an e-mail to Anita? Why MY blog? Is it because I’m a harmless target who won’t have a chance to fight back?

Probably there are more questions unanswered hovering around in other people’s minds (those who have unfortunately been involved in this unpleasant incident), so it’s okay if my questions are left unanswered. I feel better bringing them out in the open. Thanks for dropping by here, Lily.

Lily of the Valley,

I have written a long comment to respond yours but on second thought, I don’t think it’s worth it.

You can’t just delete things which have been published as if they’re never there in the first place; see Rebecca Blood’s no.4. Believe me that what Marisa did is noticed by many Indonesian ‘top’ bloggers.

To me this matter is finished. I have moved on and am dealing with much more important matter. And I believe others are also tired of this (borrowing Rob’s term) slugfest.

Have a happy Monday everybody!
