"not the kind of face that China want to show the world?"

What happen with chubby cheek and crooked teeth anyway... the girl still look so cute on that face. Besides, as therry said... me, as well, is far more uglier then her when I was in her ages... and still, I was adored and being loved at that moment.

What the hell in their mind when they decided to swap that chubby 7 years old girl just like that... IT's SO RUDEEE...

ugghh.. I really hate them for doing that.
so silly...

Silly, stupid.. and yet that's life... loh? LOL
I think being 7 years old and chubby can be categorised as cute and attractive as opposed to being "too chubby with crooked teeth" right? :)

Ther, if looks is all that matter..the Olympic Chinese officials should ask celebrities such as Allan Wu, Chow Yun Fat, Jet Li and the likes to replace them at the opening ceremony because they look far better from every angle. Am sure many of the Beijing committees are old, ugly with spitting habit and stinky :) Talk about flawless standard huh? ;)

LOL. None of those actors are exactly Adonis-looking either. Especially Jet Li, if you look at him up close. But that might be a good idea, they can also include Zhang Ziyi and let them actors perform some old kung-fu, crouching tiger hidden dragon performance to please the audience!

Yeah, it's horrible. She's just a 7 year old kid for God's sake. Who in the right mind can tell her that she's too ugly hence she cannot perform?

Sometimes people value looks a bit too much / over the limit, besides her job was to sing, not to do modelling (which we all agree that modelling job needs good appearance). It's her voice that matters, not her face.

Poor girl. But I heard that they are going to "compensate" by making her perform for the closing ceremony?

And that's supposed to make her feel better? LOL
You're right, even Aretha Franklin does not need to go on an extreme diet before she has to perform because she knows people love her just the way she is, and they love her voice not her body. But I guess that's just the way it is today. Singers like Christina Aguilera or The Pussycat Dolls are much well appreciated, even though they have mediocre singing talent and yet people love the way they look.

Vay superficial.

The fact that they use a different person to represent the real singer is not really nice and it is really not fair to the child. Maybe they just want to impress the world on their opening ceremony and decided to lip sync it but IMHO it shows how they treat people by appearance alone. Tsk!

It's an Asian thing to be obsessive about their appearances. Sometimes I think being and living in Asia requires much more strength to survive, since it's so competitive; there are too many people wanting the same thing that you want and there aren't enough places to fit everyone.

I guess the pressure of being the Olympics host was so great, added with the thought that they weren't confident with their own effort.

I know ther! I was just reading this article a couple of days ago and was discussing this with my hubby. I personally think it's just so unfair. Furthermore, it's damaging to the kid's self-confidence. Imagine how you will feel if you are being told you aren't supposed to perform just because you are ugly? I mean for an adult, such an insult will be easier to bear but a child...come on... they are too cruel!

Let's just hope that the whole lip-sync experience didn't scar Peiyi's life forever, I'm sure she will grow up to be a beautiful girl someday, and get to perform in front of a huge audience to prove everyone wrong :)
