She's just a 7 year old kid for God's sake. Who in the right mind can tell her that she's too ugly hence she cannot perform? Sometimes people value looks a bit too much / over the limit, besides her job was to sing, not to do modelling (which we all agree that modelling job needs good appearance). You’re right, even Aretha Franklin does not need to go on an extreme diet before she has to perform because she knows people love her just the way she is, and they love her voice not her body. It’s an Asian thing to be obsessive about their appearances. Sometimes I think being and living in Asia requires much more strength to survive, since it’s so competitive; there are too many people wanting the same thing that you want and there aren’t enough places to fit everyone.

I guess the pressure of being the Olympics host was so great, added with the thought that they weren’t confident with their own effort.

I was just reading this article a couple of days ago and was discussing this with my hubby. I personally think it's just so unfair. Furthermore, it's damaging to the kid's self-confidence. Imagine how you will feel if you are being told you aren't supposed to perform just because you are ugly?
