Micah’s Strange Habits

For the last couple of days, my dog Micah has been developing a quite strange habit. I don’t know where he got his habit from because I’ve never taught him, nor even imply anything that triggers him to do it.

It’s not exactly annoying, just mind-boggling and perhaps rather strange, as I already mentioned before. And because I managed to snap a few photos of him being caught in the act, I feel that I should explain this newly developed habit by pictures.

I know he has this thing for using the UPS underneath my desk as a leverage to get attention (and food) from me whenever I am snacking in front of the computer, but now he’s started to think that using the UPS as a leverage to climb the bedside table is a mighty fine idea to accomplish his… mission.

Once he gets on top of the table he starts doing maneuver of this and that, trying to find the most comfortable position, perhaps?

When he finally does, he lies down and rests peacefully, looking around from a new (higher) angle seems like a better place to ‘hang’.

What freaks me out the most is the fact that now he is able to do is oh-so-silently that when I turn around to look, he’s already lying on the table and he does this without drawing any attention from me whatsoever. I have to say that he’s starting to resemble his daddy’s sneaky little habit.

Because I am a kind mother, I decide to get rid of my books so that he has more space for himself. I think this is the beginning of something that I might regret later on, because at one point he actually manages to fall asleep…

And fall asleep he does…

But the sleeping does not last long. He still thinks that my bed is, after all, the most comfortable spot to lie his furry body and cuddle into a good deep sleep. Even though I am aware of his effort to climb onto the bed, he never tires to try again, and again, and again. And my answer is always, without failing, “NO! Back!” (meaning back away right now you furry little devil, or I will dethrone your ass down).

So now what happens is that this habit has become a daily thing. In a jerky, backward and forward session, he does this everyday – climbing on top of the bedside table, rests there for a while, gets bored and tries to get onto my bed.

If you think that’s weird, wait till you see this…

Despite how mildly annoying it is, I can’t help but feel besotted. This habit is the one thing he develops all on his own, by his own initiative, and even though God knows why he’s compelled to do this I have to hand it to this dog; he’s a one smart kiddo!

You’re not the first to say that! Micah is a boy, but he does have some feminine and kinda mellow-ish look about him doesn’t he?

Dogs are an addiction no sane being should ever resist or avoid. Like humans, they are also creatures of habit. Like Micah’s case, once he settles into routines, doing the same things day in and day out, some behaviors become a habit and habits can be hard to break! My late dog Fatso was so fond of chicken, he would wake up from his deep sleep just to get a few bites. Then the routine walks morning and late afternoon. He had his own body clock and would sit by the bed to drag me out and walked him in the morning. I spoiled him too much .. am sure you do the same to Micah ! lots of kisses and tummy rubs for Micah.

LOL. He has this another habit that’s hard to break; after I bathe him and he’s all nice and clean, I let him sleep on the bed with me, but a few days after when he’s all smelly and stinky I tell him to go back to his own bed and he refuses!! Sometimes he will sneak up in the middle of the night and jump on the bed as if I won’t notice!

I think Micah just likes to be nearby his humans, he’s trying to stay close to you. My Bonnie would just climb my lap whenever I sit down… on the couch, in the car, everywhere. Even during walks she would rub her body on my leg every now and then before running off again. I guess they get attached to us after a while.

You’re right, I think he’s really attached with me. When I wake up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom to pee he will wake up from his sleep and accompany me until I get back to the bedroom. The strange thing is he doesn’t do this with my beau. Only me! He must really love me

Dogs are the greatest creature in the world. They teach us about unconditional love and I’m reminded of it everyday.

I don’t think he has any interests with any digital types of gadgets… his hobbies and interests consists of food and getting food. LOL. Oh, Micah is a boy, by the way. Damn I hope I didn’t feminise him, this isn’t the first time people think he’s a girl! Must be the eyes and the whole soft fur thing he’s got going on…

Therry..I love dogs in general,and this one is so gorgeous and adorable. Ooh..how I want to pat and hug him. You don’t leave in town nearby do you? I’ll take him for a walk? hahaha
(offered the same to Treespotter too:P). I have big dogs at my parents home which I do not see often enuff!

Micah’s just realised he has ‘height issues’ and is doing his best to overcome them. Cats certainly like to find high places (makes them feel superior). Either that or the flat surface of the table just feels nice and cool on his belly.
Micah is gorgeous, by the way. That rich colour of his fur: A dachshund with a red setter’s overcoat on. Gorgeous

I think he’s secretly scared of heights but love the access that comes with – closer look and reach for food on the desk, and being able to hop either on to the bed or to my lap through the bedside table LOL.

Thanks for the compliments Cookie, he is a handsome dog! He used to have vertical black streak running from his neck to his tail but it turned to a dark, reddish color now. The only black fur left can be found on his tail and ears only

Yep. Definitely. He suffers from ADD, BIG TIME. I think it’s partly my fault – he’s always being the centre of everyone’s attention whenever they see him. People croon and tell him how gorgeous he is, why do you think his head is so big? LOL

Ya ampunnn Therry, micha lucu banget sih. Udah gitu keknya seeking so much attention yahhh… Ampunnn, mana bulu2nya mengkilat banget, bikin gemes pengen ngelus2. Kata anya, “mommy, SHE is so cute, can we have her mom???”

Nah lo, anjing loe jenis kelamin sebenarnya apa sih bok, kok auranya sangat… errr… feminim skali, hahaha… (our mowee is not that lucky… )

Micah cowooooo, dia cowoo lohhhh ihhh *meronta2* apa perlu gue kasih unjuk *itu*-nya? hi3x.. mau minjem? Boleh2 aja. Tapi ntar kalo dia ga mo balik gimana dong??? Kali ama elo dikasi Pizza tiap hari dehhh huahahaha
