Photo Experiments

line

I probably won’t be able to afford a real SLR and in the meantime will still allow Toni and Elyani to make me jealous with their awesome photography skills, but when all one’s got is a Sony cybershot digital camera, one has really got to make do with what one’s got, so experimenting is the key.

While at the bakery, I managed to snap some interesting images of the cakes and their decorations. Enjoy the cupcakes and feel free to drool.

PS: You can order them online at Dominé Bakery.

  6. Have you ever heard of Henry Cartier Bresson ? He is an expert of the snapshot picture.

My dad once told me that to capture a moment through a snapshot is more difficult.

So, even though I have the SLR camera, am still strugling with my casio camera, in other workd, am still strugling with taking the right moment with my snapshot :-(

So, if I may say, I love your picture, especially the Santa’s.

I think capturing images of cakes and the likes are easier because they are still objects – perhaps what your dad meant was more of moving objects, such as athletes running during sports events, or children playing in the parks. For me, those would’ve been difficult to capture indeed.

The Santa was a decoration on top of a Christmas cake that was placed inside a showcase and it had yellow lights in, I just thought it created a nice hue to the cake and the decors. I captured that photo real close ;)

    Thanks, Tere!

  9. Cool, IMHO I love the santa color tone.. but there’s something that is missing from the 1st and 2nd pic… hmm.. color tone and saturation perhaps? I just feel they’re too plain..

but 3rd and 4th pic are superb!

  10. Well done Therry … :)
My favorite is no. 2, simple but eye catching.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

    Toni´s last blog post..Work station

That’s my favourite too! I used only the available tool – white carton paper for background (it was to be cut and assembled for cake boxes) and the cupcakes tier. I think the cupcakes’ colors alone make the photo very colorful.

  12. You’re doing great. The Santa shot is beautiful…you can give a blur effect if you bring your camera closer to the object. You know one of the most important things in becoming a good photographer, is practice, practice, practice. And practice makes perfect!
For a white icing cupcake, next time try to rearrange the other color cupcakes as the background if you want to focus on the white cupcake..so the effect wont be too bright. Just a suggestion :)

Elyani´s last blog post..Sorry, long time no post!

Thanks for the suggestion El!! I guess the beauty of having a digital camera is that one can practice as many as one likes because if there’s a photo they don’t like, they can just delete it! (and I’ve deleted A LOT, LOL)
