About
Therry is a hermit by default – preferring to live her life quietly with her fiance (and soon-to-be-husband) and her long haired dachshund, she is a natural people observer and their behaviors never fail to entertain her.
She is currently working as a full time English teacher in an exciting company specialising in cruise lines. Her main job is to teach premium English to the students who will be parts of the company’s crew in its fleet.
Being born and lived in Indonesia, her view on her home country and the culture of its people have been somewhat different, due to the six years she spent studying in a small city called Melbourne in a country famous for its kangaroos (amongst other things).
Therefore the subject of her writings have always been about her thoughts and experiences; being a person with dual influences between the east and the west, and how those two culture intertwines and explore each other – sometimes seamlessly, other times shamefully, and most times awesomely.
Nevertheless, being in her 20s, she has a lot to learn about life and how to make it as a person and as an individual, and living in Indonesia has taught her so much; including the fact that one can never have the last words with an Asian parent, and that no matter how modern Indonesia has become as a country, being a female and all, she still has a long way to go in reaching for gender equality.
However, the bittersweetness of life in Indonesia doesn’t make her love her country any less. She is still in awe of its beauty, of its perfect breathtaking sunset view (especially during the monsoon season when the view of the sun setting down is that rare and the clouds are just so wildly scattered about as if they have been painted on), and its humbleness of the small, living day-to-day-life people. Most of all, she is forever thankful for the unique and wonderful Indonesian friends she has met either online or offline, in Indonesia or in other parts of the world, for the fact that they are willing to spend some time to read her insignificant piece of mind in this insignificant little blog.
She appreciates that whoever is reading this blog, will have an open mind and a global understanding that this blog does not evolve around Indonesia only, but Indonesia as a country being seen by the eyes and mind of a girl with the knowledge of living in two worlds.
She welcomes very much open-minded, generous, humorous, non-judgmental, honest, unpretentious people to leave constructive comments (or praises!) in her posts. Unfortunately, bigots, fanatics (of any kind), mean-spirited, sexist, and self-righteous people do not make the cut.
So for those who do, she hopes they enjoy their stays and her arms are always wide open for them to come back and visit.
